Parks and Recreation

Osceola County has a variety of recreational areas and opportunities. The glaciers that were here years ago left wetlands and unique geological areas.

The Osceola County Conservation Board manages 47 different public areas with a wide variety of landscapes for people to go out and enjoy. Enjoying fishing at Willow Creek, Ashton Wayside Park, the Ashton Pits, the Ocheyedan Pits, Thomas Pits, the May City Pit or Iowa Lake, or go for a walk in the prairie at Devil’s Ridge, the Loof Wildlife Management Area or Wolter’s Prairie.

Trails
Established trails are available at Willow Creek County Park, the Ocheyedan Pits, the Ashton Pits Wildlife Management Area and the Ed Winkle Trail near Sibley. The county hiking trails traverse a wide range of habitats, from wetlands to woodlands to uplands.

The Osceola Recreational Trails system: Experience Sibley through a trail system that meanders through the city, connecting our neighborhoods to schools, parks, ballfields, pool, library, hospital, nursing homes, retail and restaurants: the path circles along the outskirts, providing a safe and recreational amenity for the citizens and guests of the City of Sibley.

Fishing
Ashton Pits, Ocheyedan Pits and Thomas Pits offer the county’s best fishing spots to catch Bluegills, Catfish, and Largemouth Bass. Willow Creek is also stocked annually with trout.

Golfing
The Sibley Golf and Country Club, located on the east side of Sibley just off Highway 60, is a 9-hole club. The course includes features 3,345 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 36. The course rating is 35.8 and it has a slope rating of 122 on Blue grass. The clubhouse includes a fully stocked bar and food menu items at Mulligans. All are welcome!

Camping
There are 12 campsites at Hawkeye Point, and 5 at Willow Creek. All sites are available on a first come, first serve basis. No reservations are accepted. For more information call the Conservation office on (712) 758-3709. In Sibley, Sam Robinson Memorial Park offers camp sites with full hookup (electric, water, & sewer) or just electric & water. Swimming
The SIbley Outdoor Aquatic Center offers a great atmosphere for swimming and exercising for the entire family. The features include a spray pad, zero-depth entry, water walk, water slides, diving board, log roll, Aqua Climb, and more. All lifeguards are American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR, AED certified. Call 754-2205 for weather related pool announcements.

Hunting
The Osceola County Conservation Board manages roughly 1900 acres of public land, and most of this land is open for public hunting. Pheasants and/or deer can be found on most of our areas at different times throughout the year, and quite a few of our areas have water. Good places to start are the Schnepf Wildlife Management Area, the Swalve Wildlife Management Area, Devil's Ridge Wildlife Management Area, and Wolter's Prairie. However, there are many other great Wildlife Management areas throughout the county.
